DESCRIPTION

Hamra Digital is a game development outfit from Brooklyn, NY making games and chewing gum, and the gum economy is really bearish right now.

history

Hamra Digital was officially founded in 2020 by founder Matthew Hamilton-Roux. After graduating from Mohawk Valley Community College, he returned to NYC to attempt to join the job market and failed miserably. Doing so, he took matters in his own hands and created RADARjAM, a solo developed project initially created as an entry in the Ludum Dare game jam. RADARjAM took the bullet-hell genre and created a new experience while also staying close to its roots. No bullet-patterns lead to a new perspective of the genre, as well as the addition of the limited sight of enemy planes, airships, missiles, etc. RADARjAM released on Steam on July 28th, 2020. While a good game, it was not successful, nor was it created to be successful. From the experience earned, Matthew was accepted into Playcrafting’s PlayNYC Graffiti Games class of 2021. Hiring old friends Pavel Kozulya and Victor Granados, Hamra Digital had an official crew, and began the development of Big Boss. With help from developers from Rockstar, development went fairly smooth. Initially a 1 v 3 asymmetrical fighting game, the game found success on the convention floor, bringing in hundreds of different interested players, including Wrought Flesh developer Miziziziz and the cast of Extra Credits. Big Boss attained additional funding through RIT’s MAGIC Incubator, leading to the development of Big Boss: A Villain Simulator, a single-player roguelike addition to the original, currently in development.

Currently, Hamra Digital has their sights on completing development on Big Boss: A Villain Simulator, as well as advancing the discussion on game development through the YouTube series Hamra Digital Video, where Matthew discusses and dissects game tropes and design.
